Dept. of English

The Department of English is one of the premier institutions of teaching and research in Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. Established in 1961, it has taken quantum leaps in both teaching and research, known for its faculty, ever since inception, the Department has been engaged in improving teaching methods and materials in consonance with the requirements of the fast-changing scenario of English Studies. As a result, it has kept pace with the NET/SLET programmes, which is a part of UGCs comprehensive plan to provide competent teachers to the nation. Besides core courses on British and American Literature, the Department offers courses in Literature and Philosophy, Literature and Gender, New Literatures and Contemporary Literary Theory. Currently, Modern British Fiction, Feminist Studies, American Literature and Indian Writing in English are the thrust areas in researches in the Department. The Department has a very high rate of its students who are absorbed both in traditional and modern professions. The Department of English has so far conducted 23 Refresher Courses in English. Besides, the Department has since its inception held 9 National Seminars on various topics and conducted one workshop and one Summer School with national and international participants.
