At the University Campus, the Department of Sociology was comparatively a late entry in the year 1998 among the faculty of Social Sciences which was started under the Chairmanship of Dr. Amir Singh, Professor of Psychology and the then Dean of Academic Affairs. The subject was started with a view to develop a multitude of trained Sociology workers especially in the Northern part of Haryana with an intake of 30 students and with a newly prepared course design, under annual exam system. Since then, around 500 students have been admitted to P.G. Classes of Sociology. Sociology today , while widening its frontiers to other areas of human life, sets its presence in the domains of development studies, gender studies, rural sociology, new age movements, sociology of health, and crimes besides management and organization studies, population, industrialization, globalization included. The Department intends to make its students well versed with theoretical and empirical issues. The Ph.D research Scholars are working hard on a variety of topics of national and global attention. The present intake capacity of the department is 60 students. From this year the teaching faculty is enlarged with addition of three new assistant professors.
The Department has good quality physical and social infrastructure which helped produce comparatively a larger number of NET/JRFs.
The Department is chaired by Dr. Vijender Singh, Assistant Professor.
