Department Profile : (HINDI)
The Department of Hindi is the one and only prime institution of this region for learning and teaching of Hindi. In the field of research also, this is the only institution in the state. During 1961 this department was established by Prof. Hardev Bahari, a Legend & Renowned Scholar of Linguistics. The department from the very first day is seriously and sincerely engaged in making Hindi popular. Department is teaching hindi according to the UGC syllabi and guidelines. It is preparing students for NET/SET/JRF also. A good number of students have passed NET/SLET/JRF tests. The most practical and useful part of teaching is : Rajbhash Prashikshan, Proyojan Mulak Hindi, which is the demand of the day. Bhartiya Sahitya &Lok Sahitya are two very useful subjects which are the part of teaching. The thrust areas for research are Medieval & Modern Hindi Literature. Lok Sahitya, Stylistic, Kavyashstra and Comparative Research followed by Psychoanalytic, Psychological, sociological, historical and Philosophical studies.
The department has so far conducted 8 refresher courses in Hindi, one international, 5 national and 15 state level seminars have been conducted so far and one workshop sponsored by Ministry of HRD. Time to time Dept. organizes literary activities in the department.
Eminent scholars and experts of different fields of literature had honoured the department by their Chairmanship.
Presently, Prof. Sarita Vashistha, an eminantliterature is hearing the heading the department since 01-12-2010. Almosst all the members of the Department have been authoring various books on Literature and have been writing research papers and got their works published in reputed Journals.
2. About the Courses :
The Department of Hindi is running MA M.Phil. & Ph.d. courses. There are 60 seats for MA Previous & MA Final and 30 seats for M.Phil. students. About 58 Ph.D. Scholars are pursuing Research work as URS, JRF and Registered Scholars in different fields of Hindi Literature including Inter disciplinary, stylistic, Lok Sahitya, Psychological and Psychanalytic studies. The Deptt. is honestly involved in Literary Research and Literary activities like authoring books and writing research papers.
Department of Hindi does not have any income of its own. Department is in need of an assistance of Rs.25 lac for introducing Language Lab in Hindi with computers and Ligua Phones. None of the members of the Department is having any computer. Even the office is having only a single computer that is also without any Photocopier and Scanner. All the more this computer is always having problems like viruses. Department is in need of a Big Hall to organize different Literary activities i.e. Lectures of renowned scholars, seminars and competitions with workshops.
The vision of the Chairman for the next two years is as under :-
I. Department of Hindi proposes to introduced MA in Translation course.
II. Department propose to organize one national workshop in collaboration with Ministry of HRD.
III. One Seminar of State Level in collaboration with Haryana Sahitya Akadmi Chandigarh,
IV. One National Seminar on creative writing and one open competition of Literary quiz, if funds are given to the Department by the University/UGC/Sahitya Akadmi.
