About Us

The Department of Social Work was established in July, 1981. This is the pioneer department in Haryana and its neighboring states including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of Chandigarh. The aim of the department is to impart education, training and research in social work in order to provide professional manpower/human resource in social welfare and allied fields.

Developing manpower for professional social work practice to strive for creation of a just and equal society which ensures freedom from all forms of oppression and exploitation

MISSION

To develop human resource for competent and effective professional  social work  practice through teaching and research with diverse range of problems and issues related to individuals, groups and communities by using frame work of social  justice and human rights to promote sustainable and participatory welfare and development.

The Department of Social Work is running two year degree course in Master of Social Work (MSW). In the first year of the course the department offers general course in social work and in second year the department offers five specializations i.e. Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations and Labour Welfare,  Family and Child Welfare, Medical And Psychiatric Social Work, Community Development, Criminology and Correctional Administration. The student has to opt any one out of the five spacializations.
 Field Work, an integral part of the course provides an opportunity to the students to integrate theoretical knowledge with practice ensuring the transfer of classroom knowledge into practice. The research at doctoral level adds to the knowledge base of the profession undertaken by the faculty in their areas of expertise and specialization. Various articals of the faculty are published in National and International journal of repute. The faculty has been assigned responsibility of various Advisory Boards of the Government and Non-Government organizations. Field work supervision and supervisory conferences (Individual and Group IC/GC) are the essential activities through which input and output on the part of students is guided by the fieldwork supervisors.
