About Us

The Department of Tourism and Hotel Management, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra (A⁺Grade NAAC accredited) was established in 1989 to start the First Master’s degree in Tourism in India under the faculty of commerce and management. Within a short period, it became a trendsetter in Tourism and Hotel management education by introducing Master of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (MHM&CT) and Bachelor of Hotel Management & Catering Technology (BHM&CT) courses in 2002 and 2009 respectively. The department is also running research program (s) such as Ph.D. in Tourism & Hotel Management. In a similar vein to remain a pioneer and trendsetter in tourism and hospitality management education, The DTHM proposed to start Post Graduate Diploma in Hospitality and Event Management w.e.f. 2022 session. The experienced and multi-disciplinary faculty of the department is determined to make it a Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Management Education at par with international standards.

The structure & delivery of the curriculum at The Department of Tourism and Hotel Management are contemporary & based on our continuous interaction with renowned educationists & industry professionals besides Alunani and students’ feedback under National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

At DTHM we believe in developing holistic managers and leaders for tomorrow’s hospitality corporate culture by following a judicious blend of theory & practice along with ability and skill enhancement courses, by applying highly innovative pedagogical tools and techniques tailored by the Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra to bequeath its students. We endeavor to provide an ecosystem and to groom them to be highly adaptive to the changing tourism and hospitality business environment as managers, leaders & entrepreneurs, and also sensitive toward socio-cultural responsibilities.

Welcome, on behalf of our faculty and myself to the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management

The vision of The Department of Tourism and Hotel Management is “to be the world leader in tourism & hospitality education producing managerial leaders with global competencies, dynamism, and value-laden personalities”. Since its inception 1989, DTHM has established itself as a Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Management Education at par with international standards by providing excellent academic programmes specially designed in sunrise sectors, conducting research, nurturing and supporting entrepreneurs, contributing to society and focusing on nurturing talented managers to face the VUCA hospitality world. In order to fulfil industry needs and requirements for specialized managerial skills/ competencies, the DTHM has been continuously working to induce a more practical, social and industry oriented curriculum that brings the students back to the roots of Indian hospitality management systems yet prepares them for a global tourism and hospitality career. The DTHM strives to inculcate a mind-set lag of critical thinking and problem solving by hosting a series of seminars, workshops, expert talks, summer internships, field destination(s) exposer and industrial visits with the view of providing experiential learning through simulated or real tourism and hospitality business environment.
