In recognition of its commitment to excellence in teaching and research, KU has been awarded ‘A++’ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and placed at 8th position amongst the State Universities of the country in Category-I by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and granted academic autonomy.

Established in 1976, the Directorate of Distance Education of KU is one of the oldest institutes in India. It has been facilitating learners from different backgrounds who did not have access to regular studies due to various reasons or who preferred arranging their studies around their work or family. With a strong innovative focus on its pedagogical, curricular, infrastructural and student service policies, the Directorate has been recognized as No. 1 institute of distance learning by Career 360 Survey.

The Directorate of Distance Education, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra (A++ Grade NAAC accredited) was established in 1976 with one motive, “reaching the unreached” by offering “the quality education at learner’s door step.” The Directorate has been fulfilling the academic aspirations of thousands of higher education seekers who are deprived of formal education due to some constraint or those who wish to upgrade their qualification and competence. The impetus of the Directorate is to digitally (ICT Programmes), reach out to large number of education seekers with quality educational material to address the issues of equity across geographic, social and demographic barriers.

To-day, the Directorate is providing Diploma, under-graduate and post- graduate education in forty programmes having an enrolment over 20000 students.
