The Department of Psychology was established in 1971 as one of the disciplines of Social Sciences. It is located at 2nd floor of the Old Computer Science Building of the University. The Department has rich laboratories equipped with sophisticated and latest equipments specifically in the field of Psychological Assessment, Psycho Diagnostic, Biofeedback/ Bio-trainer, Sleep Inducer and Stammer suppression etc. The Department is committed to the promotion of community mental health and provides various kinds of services, e.g., psycho diagnostic and Therapeutic/Counselling services. Apart from master’s degree courses in leading areas, the department is actively engaged in research in diverse fields. The thrust areas of research are: Mental Abilities, Personality, Psychometrics, Clinical Psychology, and Organizational Behaviour. The department also intends to take up the research areas, like Behavioural Medicine, Crime and Violence, Youth Indiscipline, Rural Studies and Cross-Cultural Research. Simply because of the fact that Haryana lives in villages, social problems with rural orientation would constitute a main area for future research.
