The Department is the oldest Department of Library and Information Science in Haryana state. It has completed half century of its existence. The Department started B.Lib.Sc. programme since the beginning in 1969, then M.Lib.I.Sc. in 1986 and Ph.D. in 1988. All these courses are still being offered by the Department. For a brief period spanning 2006 to 2017, M.Phil. in Library and Information Science was also offered by the Department.

LIS being a professional field, curriculum revision has been a regular phenomenon of the Department. During the second decade of present century, three revisions have been done at bachelor and master’s level. The Department endeavors to enable the students to successfully handle challenges in all types of libraries. Our Alumni have successfully carried out highest professional responsibilities such as Professor, University Librarian, Chief Scientist, etc. in various universities and other national institutions.

The new students graduating from the Department are also placed in different state and national level organizations. Every year, a large number of students clear UGC-JRF and NET examination.

The research programme of the Department has so far produced 54 Ph.Ds. while 22 candidates are presently pursuing their Ph.D.
