I am glad to welcome you to Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra – one of the premier institutes of higher learning and research in the country.
Established in 1956, Kurukshetra University is the oldest and most prestigious University of the State. Taking various stakeholders along, the University is working on a transformation to be a vibrant and modern institution to foster economic and social progress, resting on strong cultural foundations of the nation. New Education Policy’s focus on autonomy, skill development, multidisciplinary learning, curriculum updation, pedagogy, stakeholder engagement, etc. is being taken up in our various strategies and plans to meet the aspirations of young India.
Over the past 65 years, Kurukshetra University has grown in stature and recognition of its commitment to excellence in teaching and research. It has been awarded ‘A++’ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and placed at 8th position amongst the State Universities of the country in Category-I by the Ministry of Education and granted academic autonomy. Spread over 473 acres of land with salubrious and lush green gardens, the University has excellent and state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities conducive to higher teaching-learning environment and research.
About Us
The Kurukshetra University was established in 1956 as a unitary residential University and its foundation stone was laid by late Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India. Located in the holy city of Kurukshetra, land of the historical battle of ‘Mahabharata’ and the great message of Bhagwad Gita, its campus is situated on the western bank of BrahmSarover (the holy tank) and extends over an area of over 473 acres. Starting with only the Department of Sanskrit, it has grown into a multi-faculty University as one of the premier centres for advanced study and research in the region.
