The department, founded in 1962, has been a pioneering institution in the field of the archaeology. Presently, the department has three well-qualified Professors. It offers a comprehensive range of academic programs including M.A. and Ph.D. The dedicated teaching staff comprises three accomplished professors who bring their extensive expertise and experience to enrich the learning journey of students. With a legacy spanning over six decades, the department continues to be a cornerstone of scholarly excellence, fostering a deep understanding of archaeology and shaping future generations of archaeologists..

VISION
• To establish the department as a model at the National and International Level for its contribution to Ancient Indian History, Culture &Archaeology.
MISSION
• To encourage the youth to develop their skills, inculcate leadership qualities and quality education to make good efforts in research.
• To develop more focus on Teaching-Learning methods which can produce socially committed professionals who contribute effectively in nation building.

Ancient Indian history is not merely a study of dates and dynasties; it is an exploration of civilizations, ideas, philosophies, art, architecture, trade networks, and cultural transformations that have shaped the identity of our nation.
The Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology focuses on:
