In 1976 UGC established University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC) at Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra as a Central Instrumentation Facility. It was aimed to up keep the scientific equipment in the university science departments to give an impetuous to research and development (R&D) activities of the university. This endeavor was supported by providing the best human resource for the purpose. With the support of state of art facilities and human resources in the field of instrumentation it played a pivotal role in Research & Development activities of the university. To utilize the expertise of the existing human resource and the available infrastructure, in 1995 USIC was given the status of a constituent department of the university started an AICTE approved 4-year B.Tech (Instrumentation) programme. Thus Kurukshetra University became the pioneer to start Technical Education under university ambit. Thereafter, in the year 2004 a post student (PG) M.Tech (Instrumentation) was introduced. Doctoral program (Instrumentation) was introduced during the year 2005. Recently the name of the department has been changed as Department of Instrumentation with USIC remaining as one of the constituents of the department. Recently, also the name of these AICTE approved 4-year B.Tech and 2-year M Tech degree programme has changed as B.Tech (Electrical Engineering) & M.Tech (Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering).
VISION
To become a model department as a Centre of quality education, research with innovation and recognition at National and International level for serving society. To provide quality education to aspiring young minds for improving their skills, inculcating values, creating leadership qualities and enhance research with innovative approach and produce young engineers capable to serve in the areas of New Technological Design, Environment, ethics and sustainable technologies. Always eager to develop Teaching-Learning methods which may produce socially committed good professional human being who can contribute effectively in Nation building and represent Country Internationally.
MISSION
In consultation with various stakeholders, Department of Instrumentation have formulated the Programme Educational Objectives which help them to describe their career and professional accomplishments. The main objectives of above said degree programmes that the students will become competent and able to apply their technical and managerial skills. Also, students will possess the skills to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms, demonstrating the practice of professional ethics, and responsive to societal and environmental needs.They will be able to adapt to any environment and succeed in higher positions in contemporary rapidly evolving technologies in Engineering & technology field. They will be able to formulate and solve real life problems in the area of Engineering & technology. As a results of that students able to engage themselves in the life-long learning by pursuing higher education and participation in research and development activities to meet all challenges to transform themselves as a responsible citizens of the nation.
