The Department of Social Work was established in July, 1981. This is the pioneer department in Haryana and its neighboring states including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of Chandigarh. The aim of the department is to impart education, training and research in social work in order to provide professional manpower/human resource in social welfare and allied fields.

The Department of Social Work is running two year degree course in Master of Social Work (MSW). In the first year of the course the department offers general course in social work and in second year the department offers four specializations i.e. Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations and Labour Welfare, Family and Child Welfare, Medical and Psychiatric Social Work and Community Development. The student has to opt any one out of the four specializations.
Field Work, an integral part of the course provides an opportunity to the students to integrate theoretical knowledge with practice ensuring the transfer of classroom knowledge into practice. The research at doctoral level adds to the knowledge base of the profession undertaken by the faculty in their areas of expertise and specialization. Field work supervision and supervisory conferences (Individual and Group IC/GC) are the essential activities through which input and output on the part of students is guided by the fieldwork supervisors.
