The Department of Youth & Cultural Affairs organizes the following Cultural Activities, during the year : –
Talent Show Competition : Talent Show Competitions are being organized in the beginning of the Session at the University Campus as well as at all the affiliated Colleges in the month of August/September on the dates convenient to the Campus departments/affiliated colleges. This department sponsors the cash prizes to all the winner students.
Zonal Youth Festivals : All the affiliated Colleges of Kurukshetra University have been divided into four zones namely Ambala Zone, Kurukshetra Zone, Karnal Zone and Yamuna Nagar Zone for organization of various cultural activities. Every year, after the organization of Talent Show Competitions, the Zonal Youth Festival are organized in all the four zones under the sponsorship of this department. The students of University Campus and the affiliated colleges participate with full enthusiasm in Zonal Youth Festivals in their respective Zones. These festivals are organized in the month of September/October, every year. The recommended and commended students of Zonal Youth Festivals further participate in the Inter Zonal Youth Festival.
Hindi Diwas : The Hindi Language is our mother tongue. Hindi Diwas is being organized, every year, at the University Campus on 14th September as “Matrybhasha Diwas”. This department organizes declamation contests, poetical symposiums, National Seminars and various other activities to celebrate this prestigious occasion.
Ratnawali Haryana Day State Level Festival : The department of Youth & Cultural Affairs is working for the promotion and preservation of rich cultural heritage of Haryana State, since its inception. In this series, the “Ratnawali” Haryana Day State Level Festival is being organized, from the last four decades, without any gap by this department. Every year, the Ratnawali Festival is being organized in the last week of October or first week of November, to mark the Haryana Day celebrations. This mega festival comprises of 33 events, which are purely based on Haryanvi Culture. Hon’ble Governor of Haryana, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Haryana, Ministers from Haryana State and various high profile dignitaries come to grace this prestigious event every year. The teams from various Universities and colleges of Haryana State participate in the mega festival. This festival has get name and fame at international level and is known as “MAHAKUMBHA OF HARYANVI CULTURE” amongst the people. Apart from Haryanvi events, the live picture of Haryanvi culture is being presented in this mega festival by organizing various Fine Arts workshops, exhibition of paintings by renowned artists, creation of Haryanvi huts, ambience creation and presentations by various renowned Haryanvi artists. The people from all parts of Haryana visit the University Campus every year to see the glimpses of this cultural presentation.
Literary Workshop : This department organizes, every year, a three days Literary workshop at the University for the University Campus/affiliated Colleges students. The experts of National repute are invited in this workshop to get the University students aware with the depth skills of Literary events. The students participating in this workshop are awarded with the participation certificates after the event.
Fine Arts Workshop : This department organizes a three days Fine Arts workshop also at the University Campus every year, for the Campus/affiliated Colleges students. The Fine Arts experts, who have been popularized at National/International level are invited in this workshop to train the University students. A large no. of students participate in this workshop and get training from the Experts invited. The students are awarded with the participation certificates after the event.
Inter Zonal Youth Festival : After organization of the Zonal Youth Festivals of four Zones, the Department organizes the Inter Zonal Youth Festival at the University Campus or any of the affiliated Colleges. The recommended and Commended teams of Zonal Youth Festivals of four zones participate in this festival. The students getting position in this festival are awarded with cash prizes and certificates. These students further get opportunity to participate in the North Zone/National Level Festivals organized by the Association of India Universities, New Delhi.
Sanskrit Day : Sanskrit Day is being celebrated every year at the University Campus by the Department of Sanskrit. This department released the grant-in-aid to the Sanskrit Department for this celebration.
Kamlesh Memorial Poetical Symposium : Kamlesh Memorial Poetical Symposium is being organized every year in all the four zones of K.U.K. in the month of December, under the sponsorship of this department. Patriotic poems are being presented in this competition by the participating students. The students participate with full enthusiasm in this event.
Science Day celebration : Science Day is being celebrated every year at the University Campus by the Department of Science. This department releases the grant-in-aid to the Science Department for the purpose.
North Zone Inter University Youth Festival : North Zone Inter University Youth Festival is being organized every year by the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi in the m/o December/January, in which, approximate 99 Universities of North India participate. Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra had also hosted the NZIUYF at its Campus in the year 2004, 2009. The multi-talented students are selected out of the winner students of Inter zonal Youth Festival to participate in this mega festival. This department takes the team of Kurukshetra University in this mega festival every year and make efforts to secure maximum no. of positions in this mega festival.
International Geeta Mahotsav : International Geeta Mahotsav is being organized by the Kurukshetra Development Board, Kurukshetra, every year, in District Kurukshetra. The holy book Geeta was originated at the holy earth of Kurukshetra. Therefore, this auspicious occasion is being celebrated as International Geeta Mahotsav every year at Kurukshetra. Kurukshetra University organizes a three days International Geeta Seminar at its Campus on this prestigious occasion. A patriotic cultural programme is also being presented at Brahmasarovar, Kurukshetra every year by the K.U.K. every year.
Celebration of Republic Day : This department arranges to organize the Republic Day every year at the University Campus. March by NCC cadets, Cultural presentations based on patriotism are being organized to mark this auspicious occasion.
All India Inter University National Youth Festival : All India Inter University National Youth Festival is being organized every year by the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi in the m/o February. The Universities from all over India, getting 1st and 2nd positions in the Zonal Youth Festivals participate in this mega event. Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra had also hosted the AIIUNYF at its Campus in the year 2014. This department arranges the participation of the team of Kurukshetra University in this mega festival and makes the tremendous efforts for getting the maximum no. of positions in this mega event. Getting positions in this mega festival increases the confidence and enthusiasm of the students and such students gets eligible to get better career opportunities in their life. Many students of Kurukshetra University are working at big platforms like TV channels, Bollywood etc. and are illuminating the name of our University at International Leve.
Organization of five days theatre workshop : On the recommendations of the Kurukshetra University Cultural Council, this Department has started a new initiative to organize five days theatre workshop every year for the Campus/affiliated Colleges students w.e.f. the Session 2023-24. The students who can do best in the field of theatre will get knowledge upto depth of theatre from this workshop. The department is making every successful effort to take the students of K.U.K. to the heights of success and is always looking forward to their social and cultural development.
Organization of various other workshop : The department organizes various other workshops also for revival of old dance forms, folk motives, folk instruments etc. to get the University/affiliated colleges students connect with the Haryanvi Culture. Recently, the Loor Dance, an extinct dance form of Haryana which was completely disappeared from the Society was revived by the department by organizing a workshop. The presentation of Loor Dance was done at International Geeta Mahotsav and Haryana Raj Bhawan, Chandigarh, which was very much appreciated by all the Ministers and VVIPs.
Voice of K.U.K. – in memory of Sh. Jagjit Singh : In the year 2017, the Department started at new event “Voice of K.U.K. – in memory of Sh. Jagjit Singh”. The students from the University Campus and affiliated colleges having melodeous voice participate in this event every year. Every year, one student of Kurukshetra University is declared as “Voice of K.U.K.” by organizing this prestigious event. This event is being organized in two rounds every year. The first round takes place in January/February and the final round takes place in the month of April.
Ratnawali Yuva Saang Mahotsav : Saang is a traditional form of Folk Theatre in Haryana. It has been performing from the last two centuries. Pandit Lakhmi Chand, the renowned poet, writer, Singer and Performer of Haryana State is compared with Shakespeare. In this form all the elements remain present like dance, music, song and drama. It is almost based on the historical and social issues of the Society. It was the main piller of entertainment three dacades before. The department organizes the Ratnawali Yuva Saang Mahotsav every year in all the four Zones of K.U.K. The people from villages as well as from urban areas come to see the Saang Mahotsavs and take the glimpses of this prestigious event. This is the dying folk theatre form of Haryana which has been preserved and promoted by Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra.
Participation in SAUFEST (South Asian Universities Youth Festival) : The Association of India Universities organizes SAUFEST every year in any one University in India. The teams getting first positions in the All India Inter University National Youth Festival perform in the SAUFEST. The Department of Youth & Cultural Affairs arranges the participation of K.U.K. Team in this mega event. The Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra was also given the opportunity to host the SAUFEST at K.U. Campus in the year 2020 and this mega event was organized by Kurukshetra University in a very befitting manner at the K.U. Campus.
Celebration of Foundation Day of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra : The foundation stone of Kurukshetra University was laid on 11th January, 1956. To mark this auspicious occasion, a “Hawan Programme” is being organized every year at the University Campus. The teaching, non-teaching staff and students of K.U.K. attend this traditional function every year.
Celebration of Independence Day : Independence day is being celebrated at the University Campus every year on 15th August. The Department of Youth & Cultural Affairs arranges the presentation of Patriotic Songs and various cultural presentation to celebrate this prestigious occasion. All the teaching, non-teaching staff and students of K.U.K. participate in this traditional event with full enthusiasm.
Organization of Adventurous Progarmmes : Every year, the Department of Youth & Cultural Affairs organizes Youth Leadership Training Camps at various hilly areas. The students of University Campus and affiliated Colleges participate in these programmes every year. The said programmes are being organized to develop the leadership skills in the students. The department arranges 7-9 days different camps like Advance Youth Leadership Training Camp, Basic Youth Leadership Training Camp, Trekking Party (Boys), Trekking Party (Girls) etc. The camps are organized for UG and PG students separately. The department arranges the accommodation, training masters, food arrangements and all other necessary arrangements for smooth organization of these camps.
Birth and Death Anniversaries of Great Sons of India : Our country India is a country of heroes. From time to time such great personalities were born here who sacrificed everything for the country. Statues of many such great personalities have been made in Kurukshetra University. On the occasion of their birth and death anniversaries, the floral tributes are given to them and their sacrifice is remembered. The department of Youth & Cultural Affairs arranges the floral tributes programmes on the occasion of birth and death anniversaries of these great personalities of India. All the students, teaching and Non-teaching staff actively participate in it.
Rashtriya Kavi Sammelan : The department organizes Rashtriya Kavi Sammelans from time to time at the University Campus for entertainment of the University students. The renowned poets of National/International repute are invited to give their presentation in the programme.
Kala Utsav : The department organizes Kala Utsav every year at the University Campus to mark the great celebration of International Kala Utsav. The artists from different parts of the country are invited in the Kala Utsav to exhibit their art work in this Utsav. These artists also interact with the University students to share their valuable thoughts with the students.
K.U. Film Association : The Department of Youth & Cultural Affairs also runs the K.U. Film Association, under which, various activities related to film entertainment are organized during the year. Various Film Actors/Actresses are invited at the Campus under this association to interact with the University students. Film Festival and various other activities are being organized under this association of the department.
Misc. Cultural Programmes : In addition to all the above activities, the department of Youth & Cultural Affairs organizes various other cultural programmes and activities as per directions of the Govt. of India, Haryana Government and the University Administration.
The main objective of the Department of Youth & Cultural Affairs is to connect the students with our culture. In view of which, from time to time, the Department keeps organizing such activities which inculcate the feeling of patriotism in the students and the students should feel proud about rich cultural heritage of our State.
