Brief Profile:
Professor (Dr.) Sarver Kumar Chahal is Professor & Chairman, Department of History, K.U.K. He has distinguished academic career spanning over above twenty-eight years. Familiar with many languages like English, Hindi, Punjabi and Telugu, he taught at M.D. University P.G. Regional Centre, Rewari before joining the Kurukshetra University in 1995. He is also heading Mahatma Jotiba Phule Chair in the university. He had also earlier headed his Department during 2015-2018. He was Deputy Director of the Centre for Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Studies in his university. Prof. Chahal specializes in the Modern Indian History having particular interest in Dalit Studies, reform movements of Phule, Gandhi and Ambedkar for the depressed classes, and other movements of the lower castes/classes in different regions of India. A combination of the Phule-Ambedkar-Foucault perspectives influence his work. He has published about thirty peer-reviewed papers/book chapters in history/philosophy/social science/arts journals and anthologies. He has also contributed/edited History chapters in Panipat, Rohtak and Jhajjar District Gazetteers published by the Gazetteers Department, Government of Haryana as well as several text-lessons for distance learning published by various universities. He has guided a number of M.Phil. (about 100) and Ph.D. (11) students leading to their respective research degrees. He is on the editorial boards of the research journals of some universities.
As Dean Faculty of Social Sciences & Chairman of Dept. of History, KUK, Dr. Chahal has been doing efforts and innovations, according to the vision & mission of the University, to develop a supportive environment as well as infrastructure for faculty, scholars and students engaged in higher education and research in Social Sciences/History. He also did innovations in teaching, conduct of research and curriculum development in his Faculty/Department. His innovations were arlier noted/recognized by NAAC Team, while its visit on 5 Sept 2017 and it even helped in achieving an encouraging NAAC Accreditation for the University.
